And Then She Waited

Added on January 18, 2013 by Andrew Gawdun.

First off, I'm glad this beautiful woman did not go up in arms over me taking this image, so many people these day's freak out.

A lot of photographers accredit their love of photography back to the first time they started shooting, which usually happens in school or a camera they are given at a very young age.  For me I would have to say the love of photography came before a camera was used.  I recall always having a fascination with people 'stories.'

Riding the metro/city transit as a kid I would sit and stare at the different passengers and come up with what I felt their life was all about.  I would love to one day know if I was right on my guesses but more than likely I'm sure I was wrong, but I don't care as most of the people I spied had some pretty awesome lives in my head.   I still catch myself creating the stories of people even as an adult.

"-This lady happens to be another one of my victims.  I suspect she is not a tourist and has lived on the island of Kauai since she was 3, when her family migrated from Vermont.  Her childhood was spent on the family Lilikoi farm where she learned to love the outdoors.  When she was 15 her mother died accidentally when a bunch of banana's fell from a tree and hit her head with extreme force, thus causing her to always wear a hat when outside that has a hard inner shell lining.  A world class surfer swept her off her feet when she was 22 and loved her ever sense.  They took over her family Lilikoi farm, which they still have, and raised a small family of 2 boys and 1 girl.  Traveling with her husband for surf competitions feed her desire to ever leave the island.  Now with her husband retired, children grown and raising families of their own she spends a couple afternoons a week reading at the public library to less fortunate kids.  Oh and did I mention she moonlights as the islands caped crusader?-"

See what I mean?  I love story art.  -AG

10:00am - Bryce and I went for our morning walk around a local neighborhood.

Photo Hours on Kauai

Added on January 17, 2013 by Andrew Gawdun.

11:00am - We managed to make it back from our walk and showered, getting ready for the full day of adventures. (We shower outside where we are staying)

12:00pm - There is only one main road on the island of Kauai, which makes travel to all the towns a long journey.

1:00pm - Bryce and I always make it a point to hunt down and walk through local thrift shops on our trips.

2:00pm - A late lunch after thrifting was had at one of the oldest noodle stands on Kauai, Hamura Saimin.

3:00pm - The friends we are staying with asked us to stop and pick them up a new kitchen broom while we were out and about.

4:00pm - The first time I came to the island Bryce introduced me to this amazing smoothie and juice shop right off the road.  It only made sense that we stop and enjoy another one.

5:00pm - Our friend Max wanted to show Bryce this vintage table her grandfather left them.

6:00pm - With a car full of people we headed out for an evening hike.

7:00pm - Some local shopping at Island Soap and Candle Works, while we awaited the pizza we ordered.

8:00pm - Mary cleaned up the kale she harvested from her garden.  (On a side note kale smells like the worst fart EVER when it's soaking!)

9:00pm - The night was finished up with a favorite viewing, this is not inconceivable.

10:00pm - Goodnight from our rockin' awesome sleeping set up!
